It was 8pm and I hid behind a tree, my heart pounding, wondering if this was somehow illegal. I was by the sidewalk that I knew Lilly walked down every evening to go back home after her singing lessons. This seemed like a great idea at the time, but as 8:05 hit, then 8:15, I started to get second thoughts.

Then I saw her. Lilly had her red hair up in a pony tail with loose bangs falling at her forehead. I could see the freckles on her face, and she wore a cute school girl skirt. My hands began to sweat, and as she came closer, I had to force myself not to run the other way.

Lilly approached, and I jumped out from behind the tree, growling!

She yelped and jumped back and her purse fell to the ground, the contents spilling all over the concrete. I bared my sharp canines, looked at her with intense yellow eyes, with crooked sideburns sticking out of my face. Then she fell back, horrified.

“Wait, Lilly it's me! It's me!” I said quickly, feeling terrible that she had fallen down. “It's just me”, I said as I took off the fangs. Her green eyes darted about, looking me up and down.

“Mike? Is that you?” She asked in a shaky voice. “W...what are you doing?!”

I tried to help her up, but she pushed me away. “You scared me half to death!” she yelled, “Are you crazy?? What are you doing??”

“No...I…It's just that...” I stammered. Great. Now I was ordinary and a total idiot.

Lilly quickly picked up her purse and shoved the contents back inside. She stood up and composed herself, her cheeks flushed with red. She started stomping away from me.

“I'm sorry”, I said after her, and she stopped walking, but didn't turn around. “I'm an idiot. I just... it's just that I like you so much, and you like all these werewolf paranormal romance guys... I'm just tired of being ordinary. I'm sorry.”

She stood for a moment, then turned around. “What?” she asked softly.

“I just really like you”, I mumbled stupidly, “but I'm too ordinary for you.”

Lilly approached me with a slight smile. “Mike”, she said, “You just jumped out from behind a tree in a werewolf costume. You are anything but ordinary.”

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I looked into her eyes and they sparkled. She leaned in and kissed my lips softly, and even though we were under a full moon, nobody turned into a werewolf. I stayed in my ordinary-normal-guy form.

And that was just fine with me.
